| Under the current OSHA HAZWOPER regulations (1910.120)
personnel who work with, and may be exposed to, spills or
releases of hazardous materials must be trained to one of
five levels depending on their assigned duties in an emergency.
This training program, when combined with site specific information,
will help satisfy training requirements for personnel who
act as First Responders at the Operations Level. After completing
the seminar participants should be able to:
- Describe what hazardous materials are, and the risks associated
with them
- Describe potential outcomes in an emergency with hazardous
materials
- Recognize the presence of hazardous materials in an emergency
- Safely identify hazardous materials
- Describe the role of the First Responder Operations Level
- Use the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Emergency
Response Guidebook
- Recognize the need for additional resource in an emergency
- Describe appropriate notifications to the communication
center
- Describe basic hazard and risk assessment techniques
- Select and use proper personal protective equipment
- Describe basic hazardous materials terms
- Describe basic control, containment and / or confinement
operations
- Describe basic decontamination procedures
- Describe relevant standard operating and termination procedures
