Introduction to Chemical Process Safety Management

Under OSHA Standard 1910.119 - “Process Safety Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals”, facilities that handle or produce one or more of the 136 Highly Hazardous Chemicals in excess of the published threshold quantity are required to develop and implement a comprehensive program to analyze and control the hazards associated with these materials. Facilities that do not have any of the highly hazardous chemicals but store or process more than 10,000 pounds of flammable liquids or gasses in one location must also comply with this standard. There are some exceptions including hydrocarbon fuels used solely for workplace consumption as a fuel, if such fuels are not a part of a process containing another highly hazardous chemical.
