This eight-hour refresher course was designed for management,
technical and field personnel who work at hazardous waste
sites and have already completed a basic 40 hour course. It
is intended to serve as a brief review of the basic hazards
and safeguards associated with work at hazardous waste sites
and cleanup operations.
The training program will involve a pre-test, classroom instruction,
demonstrations and practice sessions and it is intended to
satisfy the current OSHA training requirements for 8 hours
of annual refresher training as outlined in 29 CFR Part 1910.120,
Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response. Upon completion
of the program, participants should be able to:
- Describe the hazards associated with hazardous waste sites
- Select and use the necessary personal protective equipment
including gloves, boots, chemical resistant suits and respiratory
protection
- Review a site specific safety plan and incorporate its
requirements into their daily work activities
- Select and use portable fire extinguishers
- Use portable gas testing equipment to detect the presence
of flammable gases and vapors, oxygen deficient atmospheres
and toxic substances
- Render basic first aid and CPR
- Implement site emergency reporting and response procedures
